Del Mar St Wins Silver at European Beer Star

Left Coast Brewing Co. is proud to announce that their Del Mar St. Lager took home a Silver Medal in the category of European-Style Export at the 2015 European Beer Star. The win was officially announced Wednesday night at an awards ceremony held in Nuremberg, Germany.

Awarded for its impressive taste and quality, the Del Mar St. Lager, a German-style Dortmunder export, is pale gold in color with a malt dominant character and moderate bitterness from Noble hops. This landmark win for the Silver Medal in European-Style Export, a category typically dominated by German brewers, places Left Coast Brewing Co. amongst world-class brewers on the international stage.

“We are so proud that our family-owned brewery was able to stand up against some of the biggest names in beer across the globe. Particularly to win in a category that isn’t a typical American style beer to produce,” said Tommy Hadjis, General Manager of Left Coast Brewing Co. “It’s so exciting to receive this level of international recognition during a time when our brewery is growing.”

In this year’s competition, there were 1,957 beers entered from 45 countries. With only 165 medals awarded, the United States won 37 of those medals. Left Coast Brewing Co. was the only brewery in Orange County to earn a medal from the competition.

The Silver Medal from the European Beer Star is Del Mar St. Lager’s fourth win in an international competition. As one of the six full-time beers at Left Coast Brewing Co., the Del Mar St. Lager holds the titles for Gold Medals at the 2014 and 2015 LA International Beer Competition and 2015 San Diego International Beer Competition.

The European Beer Star is one of the most recognized beer competitions in the world, committed to the traditional European art of brewing. The competition evaluates the beers on the basis of purely sensory criteria and is limited to beer categories, which originate in Europe. Judging of the beers was done by an international expert panel at the Doemens Brewing Academy in Gräfelfing near Munich, with 115 beer experts from all over the globe. Judges were in 14 teams from 27 different countries.
